If you’re running a slightly older Nvidia GPU, you can install the Game Experience app but you won’t get much out of it a part from the driver updates. The Nvidia Game Experience app tries to do a lot but the fact is that most of its good or interesting features rely on games to support it, or better, more recent hardware to be present. You can download GeForce Experience from 3 Release the keys when you see the overlay appear. Not a lot of games do, but it’s worth checking if the one you’re playing happens to support it. If you don't see an overlay, you'll need to open the GeForce Experience application in the background and click the green Share button on the left side of Settings. For example, if you’re playing a Steam game, you can use Steam’s built-in screenshot tool, or since we’re talking Windows 10, you can also use the Win+PrntScrn keyboard shortcut, or just Print Screen to capture your screen.Īdditionally, some games have their own screenshot feature that is separate from the Steam and Windows feature. In the left panel, select GENERAL, then toggle the switch. Here’s how: Open GeForce Experience, then click the gear icon to open Settings. Before beginning to troubleshoot the GeForce overlay not working issue, you need to make sure the in-game overlay is turned on inside GeForce Experience. This means that all the settings you see on the overlay will no longer be available including the Alt+F1 screenshot feature though you have plenty of alternatives to that on any Windows 10 PC. Fix 1: Make sure GeForce in-game overlay is enabled. This card has an option to turn off the overlay which will effectively turn off the recording feature. Scroll down and you will see a settings card for In-Game Overlay. This will open the Settings panel for the app.

If you prefer to use a different recording app, you can disable the Nvidia Game Experience recording feature without removing the app. Anything you write, modify or delete is persisted into memory only, and will be gone / restored after a reboot. If you use Nvidia Game Experience, you know that it also comes with a recording tool that pops up when you tap the Alt+Z keyboard shortcut. The OverlayFS approach creates a in-memory overlay over the read-only FS that holds all the modifications and acts as if the underlying FS is writable.
Nvidia overlay drivers#
It does help keep drivers up to date where Windows update fails and that’s a pretty good reason to keep around. The Game Experience app isn’t needed to run games smoothly on your system. Strictly speaking, you only need the Nvidia control panel app to manage your GPU. If you have an Nvidia GPU, you probably also have the Nvidia Control Panel app installed, as well as the Nvidia Game Experience.
